Growing up on a farm in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, I always had a lengthy chore list from my father, who also had a particular way that he wanted things to be done.
It may have been the approach to crop rotation in the garden, the proper maintenance of our equipment, or even the method in how we fed and cared for our animals – there was a specific process in order to keep our farm running smoothly.
Sitting in college lecture halls years later, I realized that my father was teaching me about systems and processes -- set procedures you follow so that anyone can produce consistent results. Now, at ignite Business Advisors, we teach the service trades how to use systems and processes in their businesses as a catalyst for success.
I like to say, that if you can’t define what you are doing as a process, you don’t know what you are doing.
